Last Friday, we discussed Drupal in class. I heard about Drupal before; however, I had no initiative to start something brand new, considering I have PHP & MySQL, and couple websites to do.
Therefore, when we got an assignment saying that we need to research a website that is built by Drupal, I finally put Drupal into my cPanel, and watched Youtube video whole night to install it.
Right now, I am looking at customization on Drupal, hopefully I can make a nice blog site out of it, so part of my portfolio site would be done. 
You might want to look at Drupal site recipes @ http://drupal.org/handbook/site-recipes Basically people explain what they did to customize Drupal to create specific types of sites.
